Woman puts unborn baby on sale at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital
A 39-year-old pregnant Ghanaian woman is torn between selling her unborn baby or losing her three boys.
Godsway plans to sell her baby to be able to feed her children.
Disclosing her intention to crimecheckgahan.org, she said the Togolese man responsible for her pregnancy has blocked contact with her.
Also, her business has collapsed and due to pregnancy complications, she is weak and unable to go out to work to cater for her children.
The situation compelled her to confide in a neighbor about her intent, to be able to raise money to pay her children’s school fees and provide food for them. The children she says have dropped out of school because of the difficulties.
“I have three children with two different men. My current boyfriend whom I am pregnant and with whom I have our youngest child fled to Togo. We had a misunderstanding when I followed up because he refused to introduce me to his parents.
He convinced me to come back to Ghana and that he would follow later for us to resolve our differences. For a month now, I have not heard from him. I call him and his number is always busy,” she continued.
Godsway said she does not have a place to lay her head as her landlord has ejected her from their room because her boyfriend borrowed money from their landlord before leaving for Togo.
“The landlord told me my time was up because of the loan my boyfriend took from him. I do not have anywhere to go,” she said.
The mother of three said she was told that when she goes to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, she will find someone who will be interested in buying her baby.
“The person interested in the child must take care of me till delivery,” she said.
Godsway has been offered Ghc 100, 000 for the unborn baby but she says it is not enough. She claims she has heard offers that amount between Ghc 200, 000 to Ghc 400, 000.
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) got wind of Godsway’s intent and is seeking help for her to discourage her from selling her baby.
