University of Education student flees to the forest after using his uncle’s GHS 3,000 to stake bet and losing
A level 200 student of the University of Education, Winneba has taken refuge in a forest in Anum in the Eastern Region after losing his uncle’s Ghc 3, 000 Mobile Money business money to bet.
Since last Saturday, Stephen Kweku Oteng says he has been hiding in the forest to escape his uncle’s fierce wrath.
According to the young man, he cannot stand the wrath of his uncle who has been taking care of him through school thus taking refuge in the forest.
Stephen told crimecheckghana.org that he received the money from his uncle, which was meant to invest in his Mobile Money business, but he briefly diverted it to place bets on Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Aviator, hoping for a huge win, after which he would replace the money.
However, his plan backfired.
‘Initially, I staked GHS 20 but lost and in a desperate attempt to recover the loss, I kept betting until the entire GHS 3,000 finished.
“My uncle is quick-tempered and I can’t stand his wrath. That is why I have run to the forest. I now live off food from people’s farms,” he cried.
