Nana Ama McBrown saves Police Constable jailed for beating Superintendent’s son
A police Constable who was stationed at Krachi in the Oti Region has been jailed for 18 months for unknowingly assaulting a Superintendent’s son at Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
Led by Crime Check Foundation (CCF), Bernard Darko was among 40 convicts Actress Nana Ama McBrown released on her birthday.
In an interaction with crimecheckghana.org on the day of his release, Bernard said he had earlier been interdicted for deserting his duty post to engage in a shootout with some alleged drug dealers in Krachi.
He said during his interdiction, he decided to visit his mother at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
During his stay at Nkawkaw, he recalled that he was home when he had a call from his friends, three of them who were also police officers that there had been a fight.
“I rushed to Kwahu after the call in a police casual uniform but when I got there, the fight had ended. It was a police officer’s son whom my friends assaulted,” he recounted.
The issue was reported at the Nkawkaw Police Station DOVVSU Division. He said they were invited to the Station, and when they realized the identity of the victim, they apologized for their actions.
The apology, however, did not sit well with a senior officer who was a Superintendent.
Bernard said the Superintendent called them back to the station asking for a proper settlement of the case.
Unsatisfied with their apology, the senior officer took legal action against them leading to their imprisonment.
Bernard Darko was fined Ghc 3,000 but defaulted. He was sentenced to serve In-Hard-Labour.
