MBCF to adopt ward at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital
In its intense fight against breast cancer, Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) is gearing up to adopt a ward at the breast cancer unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The adoption of the ward comes with improving its condition to make patients who visit the facility comfortable while receiving treatment.
This was revealed when the MBCF team led by its Executive Director, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng made a call on the leading doctors at the surgery unit of the Breast Cancer Unit at the hospital and the Medical Affairs Director of the premier health facility.
Speaking to the doctors, Mr. Kwarteng reiterated MBCF’s commitment to help make the treatment of breast cancer more accessible.
“ We have been supporting breast cancer patients financially to get treatment. We are even putting up a breast cancer centre in the Central Region to serve the people of the area. This will reduce the cost of traveling to the city to get basic medical attention.
“Soon we will be making some payments to the hospital to cater for patients’ needs, “ he indicated.
Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s Medical Affairs Director, Dr. Frank-Owusu Sekyere who was awed with the Foundation’s breast cancer centre initiative pledged his full support for the decision by the MBCF to adopt a ward.
The move, Mr. Sekyere indicates will help the hospital improve its receptive environment.
“Your decision to adopt a ward has come at the right time. We are running an initiative for individuals and organizations to adopt wards for refurbishment as we celebrate our Centenary as a hospital. Just call on me when you are ready,” he said.
The General Surgeon at the Breast Surgery Unit, Dr. Josephine Nsaful, also pledged collaboration to help promote the welfare of patients.
“I must commend you. You are doing a good job. We will offer our expertise,” she said.
Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) has been on the ground each day sensitizing, screening, and searching for breast cancer victims to support.
