Man living with brain tumor seeks support
40-year-old unemployed man, Richard Odoku requires Three Thousand Ghana cedis to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor he has been suffering for over thirty years.
According to Richard, though doctors at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital say the condition can be remedied, they are not sure if he would survive even after the treatment.
He appeals to the general public for support as his aged mother and him are unable to raise the cost of the surgery.
In an interview with crimecheckghana.org, he said the tumor has developed to affect his sight.
“I can barely see from afar. I can barely walk long distances because I feel dizzy and if I do not get something to hold on to, I could fall to the ground,” he said.
Richard narrates that, the tumor started as a small boil on his head and he managed it at home. He said the boil gradually developed causing him to lose his hair when he was in Junior High School at Bawjiase. Richard said though his condition was deteriorating, his mother treated him at home with herbal medicines because of financial difficulties, which deprived him of proper medical care.
“When you touch my head you could feel that it contained some fluid. A lump developed on my eye lead which burst later oozing the fluid in my head out,” he explained.
He said a church in his neighborhood came in to support him to undergo diagnostics but could not sustain the sponsorship.
Living in a small kiosk, he said life has been difficult for him. “My aged mother sweeps the streets for a living and I have a small table top business doing. My relatives have neglected us because since I left Bawjiase none of them have visited me to see how I am faring,” he lamented.
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) is appealing to the general public to support Richard to help him get proper medical treatment.
