Korle-Bu drives away poor kidney patients; CCF goes to their rescue

Patients on dialysis treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital are being driven away to seek treatment at private facilities.

The private health centres are more expensive and patients who do not have the means are on the brink of losing their lives.

Sources at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital indicate that the dialysis machine is faulty.

This spells doom for those who are on the support roll of benevolent organizations.

A 20-year-old Naomi Dede Mensah whose kidneys have failed is a victim of Korle-Bu’s action.

The young lady has been living with kidney failure for four years and has been on dialysis treatment at the premier hospital since she was diagnosed.

Now, she has lost hope of surviving because she cannot afford Four Thousand Ghana cedis each month for dialysis treatment.

When she was at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital her bills were catered for by Crime Check Foundation (CCF) but she is now struggling to pay for a session of the treatment at a private health facility at Lapaz.

“Some of us were sent away to seek further treatment at private facilities. The cost at the private facility is double what we paid at Korle-Bu,” Dede stated.

The onus still lies on CCF to continue with its support for Dede’s care. However, this will be a heavy burden on the Foundation considering the hundreds of patients receiving support from the organization.

CCF gave Dede One Thousand Ghana cedis to undergo one of the two treatments within a week.

The Foundation urges the management of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to fix the faulty machines to give relief to patients who cannot afford the services at private facilities.

In complementing government’s effort in fighting cancer, Crime Check Foundation’s sister organization, Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) is committed to fighting breast cancer all year round instead of limiting it to October, the designated month for breast cancer sensitization.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) was formed on the vision of Amina Oppong Kwarteng, the late wife of Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng who holds dual role as the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation and Meena Breast Cancer Foundation.
