I man a public toilet now, but I want to own a restaurant – 19-year-old JHS leaver
A 19-year-old graduate of the Zenu K.K M.A 2 Junior High School, Millicent Gbezeh, is determined on been self-independent.
She dreams of owning a place that feeds people but for now, she’s in charge of a place where people defecate.
“I want to own a restaurant in future, “ she said.
Though from a broken home, Millicent is poised on changing her family’s life
She is the first of four children.
Her mother a factory worker suffers from cancer in the eye.
“I have had to take up the second mom role, I wash people’s cloths in exchange for food“ she added
Millicent was admitted to Jim Bourton Memorial Agricultural school in the Volta Region to pursue Home Economics.
Her plans of owning an eatery in future are gradually coming to light.
But with a meagre 10 cedis daily wage and a sick mother, Millicent is wondering how she will get to school
“I use to fetch water for a public toilet which earned me 10 cedis monthly, sometimes too I wash people’s cloths for food but now my biggest fear is how I will enrol in school“ she added.
Determined to enrol in school, Millicent has taken up the job of manning a public toilet at Zenu market.
“I man a public toilet at Ashiaman Zenu market, so I run a 12hour shift but now that my mother is sick, I have had to stop to cater for her“ she added
Millicent has saved GHC600 but that is not enough to cover her school expenses
Her father, Emmanuel Gbezeh, has abandoned them.
“It has been a while since I saw my father, I met him when the school placement came, I went to him and he asked that I let him know when the schools are released, it’s been two weeks since and he has not been answering my phone calls“ she added
Through the Crime Check Educational Funda, Millicent was given a GHC1500 to prepare for school
