I am now an abled person-Physically challenged lady speaks after receiving support

“Through Crime Check Foundation’s support, I am no longer a disabled person. I am an abled person.” That is how physically challenged Yusif Rafia expresses the joy Crime Check Foundation, CCF’s support has brought to her.

The young lady from Daboya in the Savannah Region was determined though she was fastened in a rickety wheelchair. Despite her condition she said she entered into farming alongside plying her beads business to enable her cater for herself and her younger siblings.

“I decided to go into farming because I don’t want to be dependent on society and individuals. It is also to enable me cater for my education and other needs. The district Social Welfare Department has been supporting me pay my fees but they can’t provide all my needs so the proceeds that I get from my farm is used to fund my education.” She told crimecheckghana.

But her greatest challenge was her difficulty trekking miles to attend to her farm.

Her movement in the wobbly wheelchair was a struggle, but she said she still made efforts to attend to her maize and soya bean farm and also went about her business, which was at the verge of collapse because of lack of capital. Her studies as a distant education student of the University for Development Studies, UDS, she said was also affected.

Her zeal compelled CCF to go to her aid through its donors. The Foundation gave her a motorbike and business capital to boost her dying business.

“Previously when I didn’t have the motorbike, I always attended lectures late but now I go for lectures early. I invested the money CCF gave me into my beads business. It has boosted the business and as you can see I am even wearing sandals made of beads. The business is picking up gradually and I am very happy.” She said.
