“I am alone in this world”-76 yr old widow cries

76-year-old widow, Lydia Serwaa lives at Sekyere in the Kumawu District in a makeshift house which is without electricity.

She said the only child she had who was her hope, and her husband are dead so life has been bitter for her. Serwaa said her family relatives have all gone their way and she does not know their whereabouts.

 “My family have dispersed and I don’t know where any of them live. None of them has made an attempt to find me so I only have God as my hope. My son died through an accident when he was on his way to school My husband is also dead so I am lonely in this world.” She told crimecheckghana.

The poor widow said life has battered her so hard that she can’t afford electricity so she has to resort to using lantern and torchlight. She said getting a child from her family to help her in her chores has been a challenge lest talk of a relative to support her get medical attention to treat goitre which is gradually dragging her to her grave. She said she has no choice than to endure starvation because if she does not go to farm despite her age, she won’t get food to eat.

“I do the house chores all by myself though I am ill. I have a small farm from where I get food but at my age it makes it difficult for me to frequent the farm. I don’t put my trust in my relatives because they can fail me.” She said.

CCF’s intervention

Crime Check Foundation, CCF gave the poor widow Two Hundred Ghana cedis to support her wellbeing.

She was grateful for the support. “May God grant your heart desires and restore in double fold what you have contributed for me.” She prayed.

CCF is appealing to the public to come to her aid.
