Germany-based donor donates to give Winneba Local Prison facelift

Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has supported the Winneba Local Prison to give it a facelift.

After several appeals to CCF, the crime prevention advocacy organization donated eleven buckets of paint to the prison to refurbish the facility.

The paints worth Three Thousand, Two Hundred Ghana cedis included six acrylic and five oil paints; a donation courtesy of a CCF Germany-based Ghanaian donor, Kodjo Tormegan.

Established in 1881, the prison, which was originally a warehouse, needed revamping as a section of it is in a deplorable state.

CCF moved to honour the request of the prison authorities to donate the paints to help make inmates and officers at the facility comfortable.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng indicated the resolve of the organization to help improve prison conditions.

“We want to help the inmates live soundly to be able to effectively undergo reformation training in the prisons. This is our way of complementing government’s efforts to improve prison conditions,” he said while presenting the paints to the prison authorities.

Receiving the paints, the Officer-In-Charge of the Winneba Local Prison, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Afari Mintah thanked Crime Check Foundation (CCF) and Mr. Tormegan for coming to their aid.

He expressed his excitement at the donation, which is going to change the face of the rehabilitation facility.

“Through the efforts of CCF the prison is gradually taking shape. We thank you for the donation to help improve conditions in this prison,” the prison chief said.

Five Thousand Ghana cedis of Kodjo Tormegan’s donation will be channeled into breast cancer fight.

CCF made a similar donation of twenty-three buckets of paints to the Awutu Camp Prison at a cost of Seven Thousand Ghana cedis.
