Court grants lady bail after police cut off her ear

A crime suspect, Judith Yaakuma whose story went viral after a police CID officer cut off her ear with a plier has been granted bail by the Ashaiman Circuit Court bail following Crime Check Foundation’s intervention.

Yaakuma was locked behind bars when she visited her boyfriend at the Tema Community 8 Police Station.

It was alleged that her boyfriend was involved in an armed robbery.

However, the officer handling the case, Clement Suputour, in an attempt to elicit information from her, employed brutal measures.

“He held my hand behind my back and clasped my ear with a plier clipping part of it off. I cried throughout the night because of the excruciating pain,” the 20-year-old lady said.

The incident reached the desks of Crime Check Foundation (CCF) which took an interest in the case.

Through the instrumentality of its, Executive Director who doubles as the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Ghana Prisons, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, got her a Lawyer to represent her in Court.

The Lawyer, Andrew Khartey’s strong argument for the ill-treatment of his client moved the Judge who was unaware of the lady’s predicament to grant her bail with two sureties.

In her first appearance, she was without representation so was remanded into custody for further investigations.

Judith Yaakuma’s mother however has been speaking on how the cruel treatment meted out to her daughter has traumatized her.

CCF urges the Ghana Police Service Administration to bring the CID officer to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
