Christian Atsu’s state burial slated for March 17

The final funeral rites for late Ghanaian Footballer, Christian Atsu Twasam, has be scheduled for March 17, 2023.

He would be laid in state at the banquet hall close to the Parliament House in Accra.

“It would be a solemn ceremony at the state house, then we will have the interments here in Accra, ” a family source said.

Earlier, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia had assured of the government’s willingness to give the late player a befitting burial

“We extend our sincere condolences to the entire family for their loss and I would like to say that the State will be fully involved with the family in providing him a befitting burial, “ he said.

Commenting on the preparations for the funeral and one-week celebrations, Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng pledged the organization’s support to the family.

“We are ready to support the family, we will give out 100 pieces of T-Shirts to the family and sympathizers among other things, “ he said.

Atsu died in a devastating earthquake that hit Turkey on February 6, 2023.

He was found lifeless on the twelfth day after the incident.

His mortal remains arrived in Ghana on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

It was received by the family and a government delegation led by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in a brief ceremony.

Tributes, since the announcement of his death, have been pouring in from all walks of life in solidarity with his family.

Late Christian Atsu’s one-week will be observed on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the family house in Accra.
