Breast Cancer: MBCF holds second counseling programme for patients
A section of the hundreds of Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) supported patients have received counseling to help guide and motivate them through their treatment and recovery journey.
MBCF does not believe in the year October awareness month to fight the disease but is committed to fighting the disease all year round.
The counseling programme forms part of the Foundation’s passionate efforts to fight breast cancer.
A Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Department of Surgery, Breast Cancer Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Rita Appiah-Danquah took participants through lifestyles that could help the patients to fully recover.
She also urged them to back their treatments with faith and be hopeful for better results.
“You should desist from overeating fatty and sugary foods, but eat more fruits and vegetables,” she advised.
The Breast cancer specialist encouraged the patients to be positive-minded and not see their conditions as death sentences.
The enlightening programme was very engaging drawing contributions and questions from participants as they cleared their doubts about some issues that bothered them.
“I do not understand why doctors still told me they were going to sever my affected breast after they said everything was fine with me,” a patient asked.
The counseling section eased the psychological worry of the patients regarding the progress or otherwise of their conditions.
Most beneficiaries came from different parts of the Greater Accra and Central Regions.
The maiden counseling programme was held in 2023 and will last as long as MBCF continues to fight the disease.
