Boy, 19, jailed two years for stealing Ghc 1,500
A 19-year-old boy, Emmanuel Agbleta is serving a two-year sentence at the Awutu Camp Prison for conspiring to steal a sum of Three Thousand Ghana cedis.
The teenager said he engaged in criminal acts due to parental neglect and influence from friends.
Agbleta told crimecheckghana.org that he was arrested for stealing a co-tenant’s money from his room.
Though he did not play a key role in the stealing he got jailed for receiving a share of the money.
“I had a friend who broke into the victim’s room and stole the money. He later told me about the act and gave me part of the money,” he said.
Agbleta said the victim got to find out about us after his interrogations and got us arrested.
“The total amount of the money was Three Thousand Ghana cedis. We shared it equally. The victim asked us to return the money and he would let us go free. I spent Five Hundred Ghana cedis out of the money so I gave him the remaining Thousand Ghana cedis. However, he still got us arrested,” he narrated.
All this while, Agbleta said his parents had gone their separate ways and it was up to him to fend for himself. He said difficulties in life led him to engage in the act that has sent him to prison.
“After my parents separated my father traveled abroad and my mother moved to Kasoa to re-marry. None of them has contacted me to see to how I was faring after three years of their separation,” he said.
Agbleta regrets his actions and has promised to turn a new leaf.
