AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE SUFFERING AT RIDGE HOSPITAL
Encounter with the suffering; sad story of a boy attacked by robbers
Encounter with the suffering is a sad story of a young boy which begun after Emmanuel offered to give a young man who was an accomplice to robber a ride on his motorbike at a time he was sent on an errand to buy food for his invalid brother
“I was attacked by armed robbers on my way to Pokuase to buy food for my brother when I met a guy who asked me to drop him at Teacher Kope, a suburb in Pokuase on my motor bike. Even though I was not familiar with his destination, I obliged,” he narrated in an interview with crimecheckghana.
Recounting his horrific experience which he wished was only a dream he could wake up from, Emmanuel stated the duo were on a smooth journey when the unfortunate series begun to roll up.
“When we got to his destination, he suddenly tied my neck with a rope in an attempt to strangle me but had to struggle with him because I didn’t understand what was happening. I tried hitting him countless times but couldn’t because he was wearing a helmet so I decided to pull the key with my right hand and stab me with it,” he said.
Unknown to Emmanuel, his attempted killer was not alone “one guy suddenly came out of the bush and tried to cut my right hand but failed and tried with my head which I managed to dodge and blocked him with my left hand but had it cut,” he stated.
“The new guy then asked the other guy to tighten the rope which he still held unto but I managed to pull the rope to my neck and snatched it from the guy as the other one took the motor away.”
Recalling how he was rescued and now finds himself in the hospital, he stated “there was a storey building close by so I began screaming for help when I saw a man coming but his wife asked him to come back inside the house because the guy was still chasing me with a cutlass as I run with cuts and blood all over.”
‘I bled profusely and begun to feel dizzy but wanted to try hard to get to the police station to report what had happened when I fortunately saw a nearby hospital, Anglican and decided to go there but didn’t see whatever happened there but woke up only to find myself at the ridge hospital,” he sobbed.
Emmanuel’s mother receiving the news stated “I collapsed when a police patrol team came to my house to inform me. So they had to go to his father to inform him when directed by neighbours and unfortunately, he was with another woman and refused to open the door after countless knocks till they broke the door but he quickly went into hiding till the team themselves located him,”
He has made it clear to me that he cannot afford the hospital bills and he does not care if we will have to work in the facility to settle the debts.
“We now have to pay GHc 3000 and I honestly have nobody to ask money from and can’t afford the payment because I am no longer working. I am pleading with the general public and well-meaning Ghanaians to come to our rescue,” she said.
Crimecheckghana together with Emmanuel and her mother is calling on all and sundry to help pay the bills for Emmanuel to be discharged.
