CCF appeals to the public to help recapture Chinese prison inmate escapee
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has added its voice to the recapture of a Chinese Prison escapee, Wang Xiao.
The Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng appealed to the general public for its intervention to help the easy location and re-arrest of the inmate who is currently on the run.
Xiao was serving a one-year jail term at the Nsawam Prison for stealing.
According to reports, he is said to have reported sick and needed dental care outside the prison walls.
In the escort of two prison officers, the 38-year-old inmate visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on February 7, 2024.
But after receiving medical care, he reportedly escaped while being escorted by the two officers who had accompanied him to the hospital. The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed the incident and indicated that it has issued a wanted person notice for public assistance to re-arrest the inmate.
Though Crime Check Foundation promotes prisoners’ rights, it sees the act as a grave concern for prison security.
To help make society safe, Mr. Kwarteng urged the public to help the Prisons Service with information on the hideout of Wang Xiao for his re-arrest.
The inmate was arrested in Tema, went through a court trial for stealing, and was jailed for one year, which he was serving at the Nsawam Prison.
The inmate is reportedly standing trial in another case, said to be serious offences.
Crime Check Foundation advocates crime prevention with its cautionary programme, ‘Time With The Prisoner’.
