Breast cancer: 12-yr-old pupil identified with nipple discoloration

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) has identified a 12-year-old Junior High School student with a strange nipple discoloration during a breast screening exercise.

The affected student who is enrolled at the Budumburam D/A Basic ‘B’ School in the Central Region was among 168 students screened for breast cancer.

The other beneficiary school is the Point Hope D/A Basic School also at Budumburam.

Health professionals who led the screening exercise advised the affected student to visit the nearest health facility for further investigation to ascertain whether it is a suspected breast cancer.

“It could be a skin disorder and also likely to be a suspected breast cancer symptom,” an MBCF nurse indicated.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation’s exercises also focus on the youth to inculcate in them early prevention and detection.

The Foundation offers support to victims to get medical treatment.

The two schools add to the many educational institutions MBCF has engaged since its establishment in 2022.

It has also engaged communities, and corporate bodies with its activities.

MBCF aims to stem breast cancer-related deaths through its sensitization, screening, and support initiatives.
