WhatsApp exposes thief after stealing 11,960.00 to ‘enjoy’ in hotel

A 22-year-old machine operator, Richard Addy, has been jailed for five years for bolting with Ghc 11, 960.00 sales from a block factory at Tuba around Kasoa in the Central Region.

Addy, a block factory machine operator still claims his innocence though he has been found guilty by a court.

The convict insisted he had traveled the day the money was stolen and did not have access to the office where the cash was kept.

“I had traveled to see my father in the Oti Region in an emergency situation so I did not tell my boss about it,” he confided in crimecheckghana.org.

However, the factory manager who spoke on anonymity was surprised Addy was still denying stealing the money.

According to the manager, the machine operator had run into hiding to lavish the booty on himself at a hotel. The anonymous manager said the convict’s WhatsApp status gave him up when he posted himself enjoying a luxurious lifestyle at the undisclosed hotel which his wages could not afford.

“I phoned him several times but he did not answer the calls and even refused to come to work for some days,” the manager narrated.

Addy confirmed the generosity of his manager who gave him a television to be deducted from his wages. He however insisted he had been kind to his boss than the manager did and therefore there was no need to apologize for any wrongdoing.

This he said was because he claimed the manager should have pardoned him and not caused his arrest as he was accused falsely.

“I was arrested when I was with my aunty at Tuba. The CID officer took the TV away as evidence though I was paying for it. The prosecutor could not substantiate his accusation of me stealing the money so he used the TV as part of the items I used the money to buy. The judge was convinced and handed me a five-year sentence,” he recounted.

Crime Check Foundation (CCF) crossed the path of Richard Addy when it visited the Winneba Local Prison as part of its Time With the Prisoner Series televised to caution the general public on the dangers of crime.
