MBCF: 4 women in Egyaa identified with breast cancer lumps get counselling

Four women at Egyaa in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region have been identified with breast cancer lumps.

The lumps were detected when Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) undertook a breast screening exercise in the fishing community.

Pupils of Angel Michael Academy and the Egyaa M/A Basic School joined women from the community to undergo the screening.

Despite, the high sensitization some women were still going about their brisk fish business at the shore. They were however engaged on some unhealthy lifestyles that put the breasts at risk.

“It will be in your healthy interest to go to the hospital earlier than sit at home unconcerned till your situation worsens,” Rita Deho, a nurse from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said.

The four affected individuals included pupils. MBCF gave the identified persons counseling and has pledged to offer them further support to seek early treatment.

The outreach at Egyaa is part of the Meena Breast Cancer Foundation’s year-round campaign against the dreaded disease.

Established a year ago, MBCF has screened ten thousand women, its Executive Director, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng indicates.

The Foundation was founded on the vision of Amina Oppong Kwarteng, the late wife of Mr. Kwarteng who doubles as the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF).
