Mangoase residents benefit from MBCF breast screening exercise

Hundreds of women at Mangoase in the Central Region have turned up to screen their breasts during an exercise held in the community.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) organized the screening exercise as part of its community sensitization outreaches.

MBCF was established to support breast cancer patients to undergo treatment aimed at helping to reduce the number of deaths linked to the disease.

During the exercise, some of the beneficiaries shared their knowledge of the disease, which turned out to be misconceptions.

In a bid to disabuse the minds of the women, nurses from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who took the women through the screening stated some symptoms related to the chronic disease.

“If you find out that, you have a boil which is not painful be wary that it is likely cancer. Also, visit the hospital if you realize your breast sizes differ. Another symptom is when your breasts feel rough when you rub it,” a Registered Nurse at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital advised.

The exercise attracted the old and young to take advantage of the opportunity to determine the fate of their breasts.

A similar exercise has been held for residents and street hawkers at McCarthy and Mallam Junction.

So far, Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) has screened close to ten thousand women for breast cancer.

The MBCF has supported many patients to undergo treatment.
